The minor league system can contain up to 40 players. At first, this will come from the 2 franchises that you draft. After that, it will include players that you win in the FA auction after the draft.
Players are not allowed to be in your minor league system if they have over 150 at bats or 50 innings pitched. If they are above that threshold at the beginning of the year, then they must be on your Major League roster or they will be put into the FA pool. Only players that are above the threshold that go through the waiver wire may be on your Minor League roster. Those players that do get through waivers will still have their contracts and will still count against your cap.
When you call up a player from your minor league system and they do not have a contract, they will be assigned a contract as stated below. You will either have the option of a 2 year contract, 3 year contract, or 4 year contract.
2 year: 500k, 1M
3 year: 500K, 1.25M, 1.5M
4 year: 500K, 1.25M, 1.75M, 2.25M
If a minor league player was bid on and won in auction, the following rules apply to that player when he is called up:
Any player under 499K, the manager has the option of the rookie contracts that we have set up (3 or 4 year deal).
Players at 500K have the option of taking the 2 year contract or assigning them a new rookie contract (3 or 4 year deal). If you choose the 2 year contract, the first year will be at 500K and the second year will be at 1.25M.
Players between 501K-750K - see below
Based on the contract chosen, the salary may not be below the rookie contract and the salary may not decrease. For example, I win a minor league player at 750K AAS. I sign that player to a 5 year minor league contract. In year 2, I call that player up. There would be 4 years remaining at 750K a piece. If I chose the 4 year deal for that player, it will be 750K, 1.25M, 1.75M, 2.25M
You may extend the minor league contract if you choose so. Therefore, if you have won a player at 500K and when you call him up, there is only 2 years left, a team may choose the 3 or 4 year rookie contract.
DRAFT
After the actual Major League draft, we will hold our own draft where you can draft those players. It will be a 5 round optional draft. Meaning, if you do not want to participate then you do not have to. Foreign players are not eligible to be drafted and must be acquired via FA bidding.
Only players that sign with the MLB club are eligible. Also players must be under the 150AB/50IP threshold to be drafted. Meaning if they do not sign, then you can not draft them. Also players must be under the 150AB/50IP MLB threshold to be drafted. The MLB signing deadline is July 13th so our Minor League Draft will take place after this. For 2012, the draft will start on Monday, August, 20 at 8 am central time.
Players drafted in the MLB Draft are not eligible to be bid on until we hold our draft and the players go un-drafted.
International Prospects
Starting with the 2014 season, the international prospects that sign mid-season when they are eligible are not allowed to be acquired until after the season. Players 21 and younger will be eligible to be drafted in our minor league draft. Players 22 and older and the players not drafted will be eligible to be bid upon when our free agency opens.
